English students use their half term to study Spanish in Spain

Orin Bristow, Daniel Jefferis, Benjamin Landman and Conor Keogh, teenage AS English students decided to spend these few days in Bilbao studying Spanish with us. This week-long vacation, known as “half term” in England, separates the 16 weeks between Christmas and Easter and our new students decided to come to Spain with closeteachers to improve their Spanish, one of the 4 subjects they have chosen for their A-Level studies.

They have been taking the opportunity to spend the week getting to know the Spanish culture, experience Bilbao, and practice the language they are learning.

Daniel, 17, has relatives in Bilbao and this isn´t his first visit to the city. Conor, a year older than the other two, is using this opportunity to boost his level of Spanish at A2, the last year of school before university. Orin chose to live with a Basque family and better acquaint himself with local daily life. Finally Benjamin, who is also having private lessons, has the opportunity to prepare for his oral examination in Spanish, the topic of which is "The culture of bullfighting in Spain.”

The 4 teenagers did not know each other before arrival, but in this familiar environment they are getting on very well and have now made new friends who are also studying at Instituto Hemingway.
