San Sebastián is a small city located in the North of Spain, which offers many cultural and tourist attractions. Here you can enjoy the beach, surfing, gastronomy, nature and Spanish language courses.

The Spanish school in San Sebastián offers intensive courses which look to facilitate rapid learning. You can do intensive courses of 20 or 25 hours per week, which allow the student to become immersed in the Spanish language. If you are planning on staying in San Sebastián more long term, there also exists the option of 4 or 10 hours of classes a week. All of the Spanish courses have a practical focus and are orientated towards results. The classes are always small, with a maximum of 8 students per class.

We also offer a specific programme for children of approximately 4 years of age, which is adapted to their specific needs. Furthermore, we have another course senior students which combines classes with cultural and leisure based activities.

In addition, after classes we put on cultural activities for Spanish students, which offer a great opportunity to get to know the city better.

Activities

The School organises activities which aim to develop students´ Spanish skills, with teachers usually attending them. It presents an additional opportunity to practice comprehension and expression of the Spanish language.

Accommodation

All of the accommodations are situated near to the School. You can choose from the following options:

Shared apartment- you can live with other students from the School or Spanish university students. You have your own room, whilst sharing common areas such as the lounge and the kitchen.

To start with, the city’s gastronomy is a real highlight. Pintxos of every kind and txakoli (a type of white wine) are popular local treats. At the beach you can enjoy a bike ride along the coast and swim to the nearby island of Santa Clara. The city offers both a lively nightlife and a charming Old Town.

The Bay of La Concha is San Sebastian´s most iconic attraction. Its beach, located in the centre of the city, is much photographed. It is considered by many to be one of Europe´s best urban beaches. In this bay area visitors stumble across many peculiar monuments and statues including La Barandilla, Las Farolas and the zone of Los Relojes. The island Santa Clara also has its own beach.

The wider city is also very elegant and well looked after. The Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) was built in 1897, originally a casino. The Cathedral was also built in the same year. Its pointed design was inspired by French and German medieval churches. The spire which looks over the building is the tallest structure in San Sebastián. Its principal façade bears the work La Cruz de la Paz, by sculptor Eduardo Chillida.

In 1912, the Theatre Victoria Eugenia, the Hotel María Cristina, the new spa, La Perla, and the funicular Monte Igueldo. In July 1912 the regent María Cristina inaugurated the hotel which carries her name. This luxury hotel has housed many famous guests since its foundation, from musicians, Hollywood starts, writers and aristocrats of international prestige. The Theatre Victoria Eugenia, opened 2 weeks after the aforementioned hotel, is of renaissance style and built from sandstone.

San Sebastián also offers waves, surfing and fun. Sagués has, since its renovation 15 years ago, has become a favourite destination amongst surfers and young people. Surfing, volleyball and football are some of the sports on offer in this vibrant and attractive city.

The food in San Sebastián is an unmissable highlight. Basque gastronomy has become world famous thanks to the regions fantastic chefs. In fact, there are 16 Michelin Star bearing restaurants in the area. Basque cuisine is very varied, using diverse ingredients from the sea and the land. The key to Basque gastronomy is seasonal, high quality ingredients.

One of the culinary treasures of San Sebastián is its famous pintxos which can be found in its bars and restaurants. Pintxos are a form of miniature snack which combines elaborate and strong flavours in small portions.

Txakoli is produced across the Basque coast from Getaria to Zarautz. It is a young, fruity white wine, with a moderate alcohol percentage of 9.5% to 11.5%. Usually it is a pale yellow colour, with intense citric aromas, as well as notes of herbs and flowers, slightly acidic and easy to drink.
